Dr. Neal Eckert was born and raised in Fredericksburg, Texas. He is the son of Jimmy and Cathy Eckert and grandson of James and Dorothy Eckert and Roy and Claribel Bierschwale. Neal has one brother Cole, who is married to Brooke and they have two children, Aubrey and Weston. 

Dr. Eckert attended St. Mary's Catholic school and Fredericksburg High School. He then attended Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and majored in Poultry Science. Dr. Eckert then started vet school in 2006 and graduated in 2010.

Dr. Eckert moved back to his hometown in 2010 and started his career. He married Melissa ('11, Whoop!), daughter of Floyd and Shirley Nielsen, in 2012. Melissa grew up in Fredericksburg and she has one brother, Bradley Nielsen. Dr. Eckert and Melissa have 3 children. One daughter, Anders and twin boys, Jack and James. The Eckert family also has 2 dogs, G. Rollie  and Bertie

Dr. Eckert and Melissa care very much for their community and are very excited about the future of Gillespie County. The Eckert family thanks everyone who has supported them in their journey, and they cannot wait to see what is in store for Fredericksburg Veterinary Center.
